Bermuda: The Atlantic’s New Superyacht Destination

Just a two-hour flight from New York City, you’ll find the island destination of Bermuda, known for pink sands, crystal clear waters, gorgeous foliage, and some of the best golf and tennis clubs in the world. Long a favorite for East Coast holiday weekends, the British territory is now emerging as a luxury superyacht destination.

Bermuda’s yacht industry is rapidly growing. In 2024, the island welcomed a total of 974 yachts, including 79 superyachts,a 41% increasecompared to the previous year. The 2025 numbers are not yet released (we will issue an update when they are) but a similarly large increase is expected. This is due not only to Bermuda’s participation in major events such as theNewport to Bermuda Yacht Race, but also Bermuda’s recent heavy investment into superyacht-ready infrastructure, such as thenew St. George’s Marina & Superyacht Dock. This new state-of-the-art facility located in the UNESCO World Heritage site of St. George’s offers berthing forvessels up to 150 meters, onsite yacht agent and concierge staff, and an exclusive superyacht owner’s lounge. It is very near to the island’s only airport, L.F. Wade International Airport, which canaccommodate private jets.

Why Do Superyachts Choose Bermuda?

Location

The island’s location in the North Atlantic Ocean about 650 miles east of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and about 1,000 miles north of St. Bart’s makes it an ideal mid-Atlantic waypoint. There are no visa requirements for citizens of the US, UK, and Canada.

Privacy & Safety

Unlike many popular Mediterranean or Caribbean yacht destinations, Bermuda values privacy. You won’t find paparazzi or big crowds on the island. It’s the perfect destination to escape for peace and quiet. In addition,Bermuda is a very safe destination for tourists, generally holding a Level 1 travel advisory (the safest rating) from the U.S. Department of State.

Financial Hub

Bermuda is a globally respected financial center, particularly in insurance and international finance. That sophistication extends to marine services and logistics, making it easier for yacht owners and crews to navigate local marine regulations, provisioning, and financial arrangements.

Sunset In Bermuda

Hospitality in Bermuda

Bermudians are known for their friendly demeanor and it is commonplace to greet everyone, from shopkeepers to strangers passing on the street. This warmth extends to their gracious hospitality.

Where to Stay

Bermuda has no shortage of historic and luxury hotels. If you have friends in Bermuda or a reciprocal membership through another club, we love. It offers the true Bermuda experience with historic architecture, charming cottages, beautiful gardens, and welcoming staff. It boasts a private beach, tennis courts, a clubhouse with restaurants, oceanside patio, pool table, library and more. It’s a great choice for families as many of the cottages have full kitchens, multiple bedrooms, full-size living spaces, and private patios.

In terms of large, luxury hotels, the best are(directly in town, walking distance to Front Street’s bars and restaurants),at Tucker’s Point, and the newon St. George’s Island, near the yacht port.at Elbow Beach is another upscale and well-loved choice on the island; its private location, design-focused atmosphere, and excellent dining options make it a great choice for discerning travelers.

All of these luxury hotels can plan exclusive experiences for their guests, including private beach dinners, historic tours of St. George’s, glassblowing workshops in Dockyard, cave experiences, fishing trips, and private sailing trips.

Where to Eat

If your last trip to Bermuda was 10+ years ago, you might remember that the number of truly quality restaurants was minimal. In the past decade or so, many new restaurants have opened on the island, including excellent gourmet options. Many (but not all) of the best restaurants on the island are connected to hotels, includingat the Hamilton Princess,at the Southampton Princess (note that the hotel itself is temporarily closed at the moment), andat the Azura Hotel.

in Paget is a classic choice; there you’ll find an 18th century fireplace, cedar beams, and original stone walls and dine on traditional Bermudian dishes, as well as steakhouse classics. The nearbyalso offers great food, along with elevated ocean views.

If you’re looking for a good bite in Hamilton’s downtown, we suggest,, or. For a casual pub meal, stop by the oldest licensed establishment in Bermuda,.

Where to Play

Bermuda is renowned for having one of the highest densities of golf courses

relative to its small population and land area (at 21 square miles, the entirety of Bermuda is a little smaller than the island of Manhattan). Our favorites are(St. George’s) and. Bermuda also has a great tennis culture, with many luxury homes boasting grass or clay tennis courts. Our favorite place to play is the, though many of the hotels have their own courts.

Bermuda Facts

Currency

The Bermudian dollar (also called the Bermuda dollar) is the official currency of Bermuda. It is always pegged to the United States dollar at a one-to-one ratio, and US currency is also accepted everywhere in Bermuda. Bermuda’s paper bills are known for their beautiful colors and wildlife motifs.

Transportation

Most in Bermuda ride scooters and mopeds, which helps manage traffic on the small and winding roads. While tourists can easily rent these bikes, traditional car rentals are prohibited but instead they offer rentals of small, two-seater electric mini-cars. Keep in mind that Bermuda drives on the left-hand side of the road. Taxis are readily available in Hamilton and other popular areas, but otherwise need to be arranged by phone in advance. Expect friendly drivers and high fares; many remain cash only. Bermuda also has public buses and ferry service.

Weather

Bermuda isԴdzin the Caribbean; it sits in the North Atlantic Ocean, about 650 miles off the coast of North Carolina. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, the island enjoys mild weather year-round, but the ocean can be cooler than many Caribbean destinations, especially in the spring. It is not a traditional tropical destination and does experience very light seasonality. Check temperatures ahead and plan to pack layers during the off season.

White Roofs

Bermuda relies primarily on rain for drinking water. The white roofs you’ll see around the island are specifically designed to catch the water. The roofs are painted with white, lime-based paint to keep the water clean and cool.

America’s Cup

In 2017, Bermuda hosted the 35th America’s Cup, where Emirates Team New Zealand defeated Oracle Team USA 7-1. The event featured hydrofoiling AC50 yachts. Bermuda’s rich sailing history helped it to win its bid to host ahead of cities likeNewport, San Diego, and Chicago.

We sat down with , a bespoke travel company based in London that offers extraordinary experiences for the most discerning travelers.BlueMarble’s team creates custom journeys across the globe, featuring private homes and villas, exclusive museum access, top dining reservations, and once-in-a-lifetime adventures.

What makes Blue Marble Private’s travel experiences unique?

We have long standing relationships that open doors to places and experiences that simply aren’t available off the shelf, whether that’s staying in a private home in Hawaii or meeting a winemaker in Burgundy whose family has been there for generations. But beyond the access, it’s the way we weave everything together, the pacing, the personal touches; it’s the little additions along the way that turn the trip into something entirely your own.

What does planning a trip with Blue Marble Private look like?

We try to make it as enjoyable and effortless as the trip itself. It usually starts with a conversation, getting to know what inspires you, how you like to travel, and what you’re hoping to get out of this journey. From there, we create a concept which outlines which destinations, hotels and experiences we have handpicked for you. We work on this collaboratively with you, balancing our expertise with your input, until it feels just right. We then get to work behind the scenes, confirming all the details and making sure everything is ready for your arrival. You receive a dedicated app which comes complete with daily details, contacts and useful information and throughout you have us at the other end of the phone, both during the planning and while you’re travelling.

How do you tailor trips to match individual client preferences?

Each client has a different personality, so we listen carefully to the details that matter the most. Some clients want to be as active as possible, others want cultural immersion, and some just want the feeling of escaping somewhere extraordinary. It’s not only about the destination but the structure of the days – do you like to pack them full of experiences or would you rather have one curated highlight each day with time to yourself in between? We listen to how you like to travel and build everything around these preferences, from the guides we match you with to the timing of your transfers.

Can you provide examples of curated trips you offer?

We’ve arranged everything from a multi-generational family journey through Iceland with private lodges and glacier adventures, to a celebratory yacht charter in the Mediterranean, to an art-immersive long weekend in Florence with after-hours access to the Uffizi. On the more adventurous side we curate polar expeditions with expert guides, or private safaris that combine both traditional camps and full off-grid experiences. The common thread throughout is that each trip is entirely personal to each client.

Amankora, Aman Resort, Bhutan.
Amankora, Aman Resort, Bhutan. Image courtesy of Blue Marble Private.

How far in advance should one plan a trip?

For the really in-demand destinations – say, Gorilla trekking in Rwanda or a top suite in Europe’s high summer season – ideally a year out, sometimes more. That said, we’ve also pulled extraordinary trips on much shorter notice, it just depends on how flexible you are and how open to creative solutions.

What are some of the most remote or off-market accommodations you offer?

Some of our favourites are private lodges in Iceland where you can step straight from your hot spring into raw wilderness, or ultra-remote safari camps in Kenya where you won’t see another vehicle for days. We also work with extraordinary off-market villas that never appear online, and private yachts that are only available through personal relationships.

What are your favorite underrated/under the radar destinations?

Namibia is extraordinary, the landscapes are otherworldly, from the towering red dunes of Sossusvlei to the remote Skeleton Coast, and you can explore them while staying in some of Africa’s most remarkable lodges. Bhutan is another favourite, a Himalayan kingdom that limits visitor numbers, yet offers exceptional properties from Aman and Six Senses, where days can include private monastery blessings or guided high-altitude hikes. And then there’s Patagonia – both Chilean and Argentinean – where raw wilderness meets a handful of extraordinary retreats.

Awasi Patagonia.

Do you offer adventure-based luxury experiences, such as private safaris or polar expeditions?

Absolutely. Adventure and luxury are not mutually exclusive for us. We can curate heli-skiing in Iceland or Chile, polar voyages with leading scientists, and African safaris that combine private aviation with exclusive camps. It’s about giving each of our clients the thrill of real adventure, but with every comfort and detail taken care of.

What is the most unique adventure experience you’ve curated?

One that stands out was a family’s journey across the Canadian Arctic. We arranged for them to travel with Inuit guides, track polar bears in the wild, and end each evening in a private camp with chefs and naturalists on hand. It was both profoundly adventurous and deeply personal – an experience that left the family with incredible memories, which is really the highest goal we have.

Luxury Travel to Historic Cities: Our Favorite Medieval Towns in France

We absolutely love planning trips inspired by specific periods, art movements, or architectural styles. In winter, there’s something magical about bundling up and wandering through towns steeped in medieval history and architecture. While medieval heritage can be found across Europe (some of our favorites include Assisi, Santiago de Compostela, Rhodes, and Bruges), in this blog post we are highlighting French medieval towns, celebrated for their unique blends of art, architecture, and rich history. As the birthplace of Gothic architecture, France offers a wide range of ways to experience medieval design, from soaring cathedrals to hilltop villages.

Mont Saint Michel, Normandy

Mont Saint Michel is one of our favorite locations in the world and a must-see for anyone who appreciates history and architecture. While youcanvisit as a day trip from Paris (), the nearly 4-hour journey each way makes it much more suitable for a weekend or overnight getaway. We recommend booking a room at the luxury hoteland then driving about 45 minutes to Mont Saint Michel. The Benedictine abbey has drawn pilgrims since the 8th century and is a.It’s an incredible and otherworldly site to approach as it rises from the landscape; it is absolutely unforgettable..Stop in for a bite to eat at the historic(open since 1879) or dine atat the base of the island.

Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux Region

For those who equally appreciate fine wines and incredible architecture, Saint-Émilion is a wonderful choice. The town is located at the crossroads of Bordeaux, Saintonge, andPérigord, and was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. The beautiful stone paths, ancient cloisters, historic chateaus, and the best vineyards make this a rich and unique trip. Book a room atto enjoy luxury amenities inside a historic building with dining by Michelin-starredchef Yannick Alléno. While you’re in town, don’t miss out on the specialitymacaroons(not traditional French macarons like you might think of fromLadurée,for example) made from the same recipe since the 1600s, passed down from nuns in the area; these treats are made from ground almonds, sugar, and fresh egg whites.

Amiens, Hauts-de-France (Picardy)

Amiens, just a little over two hours from Paris, is home to France’s largest Gothic Cathedral. The church was built between1220 and 1270 and is stunning. If you visit in December (or in the summer months), you might catch a special evening where they light the exterior with colored lights to resemble the original paintedfaçade– that’s an incredible way to see the architecture. Regardless of when you visit, the church is a spectacular example of the High Gothic period and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Much of the town is set along the water, making it especially picturesque; don’t miss

The Hortillonnages,a series of floating gardens and markets accessible only by boat. While in the area, enjoy the region’s hearty and delicious foods, includingFicelle Picarde. We love the; it is right in town and offers luxury services, including a spa.

Vézelay, Burgundy

With a history that dates back to2300 to 2200 BC, the town is rich in history from ancient times to medieval to renaissance to present day. The town features a stunning 11th-century Romanesque Basilica of St Magdalene; both the town and the basilica are designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. While in town, visit the– it’s a collection of works collection donated to the town of Vézelay by Christian Zervos (1889-1970), including pieces by Picasso, Laurens, Calder, Miró, and Matisse. If you want to stay right in town, choose, a lovely historic hotel. However, if you’ve rented a car or are willing to stay just outside the area (15-minute drive), we suggest booking a room at, an award-winning luxury chateau overlooking the rolling green grounds of the area.

Annecy, Haute-Savoie

Often referred to as the “Venice of the Alps,” Annecy is set along the

Thiou River and is ripe with incredibly well-preserved historic architecture, as well as stunning views. Stay at, aRelais & Châteaux Hotel boasting a 3Michelin-starredrestaurant. Don’t miss the, an incredibly restored castle which now is home to a fascinating museum.

Chartres, Centre-Val de Loire

The list would not be complete without mentioning Chartres, home to the famed Chartres Cathedral. The cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has the largest collection of medieval stained glass in the world, and it is exceptionally preserved. Stay in town at the luxury boutiquehotel. Visit before January 4 to view, a special event the city puts on that lights up various historic landmarks around the area, including the cathedral. It is a magical time to visit.

Ten Days in Japan: Family-Friendly Luxury Travel Tips

This week, we’ve put together our top recommendations for a trip to Japan. When traveling with children, it’s often best to prioritize seeing fewer cities in greater depth, rather than trying to move locations too frequently. For a 10–14-day trip, we recommend focusing on just three key destinations to minimize travel fatigue and maximize enjoyment. Our top picks for a first-time family visit to Japan areTokyo, Kyoto, and Okinawa- offering a lovely balance of luxury, art, fine dining, and beachside relaxation. Below, you’ll find our curated recommendations for each destination.

Tokyo

There are several exceptional luxury hotels in Tokyo, but one we particularly love is. The hotel offers several spacious and gorgeous suites perfect for couples or small families.at 1,689 square feet is the largest and features a dining table for six, a mini wine cellar, and rooftop views. However, it is a one bedroom with a daybed (and the option to add further sleeping arrangements.) For more privacy, you might consider booking two rooms at Aman – or consider another stellar hotel, suchwhich offers 2-bedroom suites, perfect for families with older children.

While in town, make sure you save time for the,, and(one of Tokyo’s oldest Japanese gardens). Children will love the, as well as, a unique immersive, multi-sensory museum.

The dining in Tokyo is exceptional. For top-tier Michelin starred experiences, consider booking in advance ator(note that this restaurant only allows children aged 13+). For more casual choices, we lovefor informal sushi, for ramen, andfor unagi.

Kyoto

The fastest way to reach Kyoto from Tokyo is to take the; the quickest train is just over 2 hours. Just like Tokyo, you’ll find many familiar luxury hotels that offer top-notch service, including. However, our top choice here is; this boutique hotel offers traditional Japanese ryokan with modern amenities nestled in an absolutely gorgeous Japanese garden. Note that there are no true suites so if traveling with more than one child, you’ll likely have to book multiple rooms.

Kyoto is popular for a reason – there is so much to do and see. You won’t be able to fit everything into one visit, but we’d recommend prioritzing, the, the, and walking the. While quite “touristy”, curious little ones might enjoy a private tour of; you can even add on a sword lesson, if you’d like!

Book a table at the 3 Michelin Starred; this restaurant is a modern take on traditional ryotei culture with a deep emphasis on hospitality and excellence. For a more informal (and kid-friendly) meal, try; this hidden shop serves up heaping bowls of top quality ramen dishes.

Okinawa

Just atwo-and-a-half-hourfrom Kyoto, Okinawa is an island known for gorgeous beaches, deep history, and a healthy lifestyle.Okinawa also has a rich cultural heritage that sets it apart from mainland Japan; influenced by its history as the independent Ryukyu Kingdom, the island offers a unique blend of Japanese, Chinese, and Southeast Asian traditions.Okinawa is one of the “blue zones”; these areas are known for residents’ longer than average lifespans. Ideal for families, Okinawa offers both laidback beach days and outdoor adventure, from snorkeling coral reefs to exploring ancient castles. It is also the birthplace of karate!

For accommodations,is the perfect blend of family-friendly and luxury. All the rooms feature waterfront views, patios, and access to all the hotel’s amenities, including horseback riding, whale watching, cooking classes, kayak tours, sunset cruises, and more. There is also aif you are looking for classic luxury; it features a gorgeous golf course and spa, as well as access to many local classes, including karate, candle and soap making, and cocktail courses. They have a robust children’s program too, including the “Ritz-Kids® Night Safari”; children are set up with a tent in the room, as well as a number of fun and creative games.

Okinawan cuisine is fresh, plant-forward, and deeply rooted in the island’s unique subtropical environment. While in town, be sure to try local staples like Okinawa soba (a comforting noodle dish with a pork-based broth), goya (bitter melon, often stir-fried in goya champuru), moringa, and asa seaweed, which adds a briny depth to soups and salads. For dining out, try(elevated and excellent) or. You will also find many small noodle shops; these are often unassuming but where you will find the most authentic and flavorful meals. Your hotel will likely be able to point you to the best in the area.

We recommend spending most of your time in Okinawa outside at the beach, inside local eateries, and in the water; however, you must also make time to visit the Gusuku Sites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The sites include,, Katsuren Castle Ruins, Nakagusuku Castle Ruins, and Zakimi Castle Ruins, as well as the,, and the. These are incredibly fascinating and beautiful historical sites; they are the perfect way to explore the area and learn more about the rich history.

Quick Tips for First Time Visitors

Book a private guide.

When possible, book a private guide – beyond any language barrier, a guide can help you understand cultural etiquette, and point you to cultural spots off the beaten path.

Familiarize Yourself with Basic Phrases & Customs

As always, we recommend new visitors take some time to learn about the cultural norms before heading out to a new destination. For example, in Japan, tipping it typically not expected (and, in fact, can be seen as rude) and shoes are not work in most homes (and some restaurants). You’ll typically be provided with slippers in these scenarios.

Use a Luggage Forwarding Service

When traveling between cities on public transport, have your luggage forwarded to your next destination using a common luxury service in JapanYamato Transport (Kuroneko Yamato). This is a safe and reliable service – but we do always recommend putting Apple Airtags in any luggage you will not be personally handling.

Consider a PocketWi-Fi

PocketWi-Fiin Japan isa portable router that provides wireless internet access for multiple devices, connecting to Japan’s mobile network. You can rent these devices online before your trip and pick them up at the airport or have them delivered to your hotel.

Children’s Culinary Camps & Classes

In this post, we’ve put together a list of our favorite culinary classes, camps, and workshops for little ones around the world. Encouraging children to spend time experimenting in the kitchen has a myriad of benefits, from building confidence, curiosity, and independence to expanding their palates and instilling a lifelong love for cooking. We love finding children’s programs that are both fun and rooted in concrete culinary skills.

With a variety of cuisines and options (everything from summer baking to Provençal cuisine), En Cuisine’s Gourmet Camp for children ages 6-12 is the perfect mix of hands-on exploration and helpful guidance from top professionals. Little chefs don’t need to bring anything – except maybe a container to bring home leftover treats in!

For parents serious about giving their child an incredible culinary experience, it’s hard to imagine a better choice than the legendary Le Cordon Bleu. Founded in 1895, the historic school can claim Julia Child,Giada De Laurentiis, and Yotam Ottolenghi as alumni, among many others. The school’s workshops introduce young chefs to French culinary fundamentals—from making their own pastries to perfecting pâte à choux. It’s an unforgettable experience for children ages 8 and up. This fall, they are offering their most iconic class to children:Chicken fillet crumbed “Cordon Bleu.”Bon Appétit!

This playful and fun experience offers structured classes, as well as private offerings and birthday parties. August has several interesting choices, including a one-day homemade pretzel workshop and a 5-day Advance Teen Cooking Camp.

The Santa Monica based cooking school offers camps for children(8-12) and teens (12-16). They also offer parent-child classes, including sushi, French macarons, pizza night, and homemade bagels.

The Real Food Academy focuses on healthy farm-to-table foods, and really shines when it comes to teenage classes. They have a large array of classes for all levels, including knife skills, farm-t0-table principles, weeknight dinners teens can make themselves, and more.

SCAFA, the School of Culinary and Finishing Arts, offers immersive culinary summer camps for aspiring young chefs ages 7-14. Throughout the weeklong program, children progress from basic knife skills and breakfast foods to more complicated dinner concepts like empanadas.

Waterfront Michelin-Starred Restaurants

This week, we are sharing some of our favorite Michelin-starred restaurants where spectacular food is matched by equally incredible waterfront views.

Set inside a gorgeous 5-star hotel on the French Riviera, this two-Michelin-starred restaurant offers impeccable views of the sea, as well as fresh and innovative flavors. We suggest the Mediterranean Mussels, accompanied by either the artichoke or the white asparagus, and a chilled bottle of Sancerre or other French white wine.

The menu at this one-Michelin-starred restaurant is ever-changing; we suggest relying on your waiter to guide you (although you can’t go wrong). Choose a table on the terrace to enjoy stunning views, top-notch service, and fresh seafood and local produce.

Though not set on the Mediterranean, the River Café in New York City still offers spectacular views of theNew York skyline and the Statue of Liberty.Chef Brad Steelman’s menu features twists on American favorites. We especially recommend the melon salad and the Dover sole with sunchoke purée.

Set ona charming bank of the Thames, this restaurant received three Michelin stars for the 40th year in a row this year, a distinction only ever held by a handful of other restaurants. For a celebratory occasion here, you might start with the caviar service then move on to seared Orkney scallops followed by open ravioli with a medley of courgettes, burrata cheese, lightly smoked aubergine, and toasted hazelnut. Save room for the dessert tasterto finish— theyoffer a sampling of six Alain Roux desserts. If you must choose just one, we’d suggest the meringue teardrop with tropical fruits, pineapple and Sichuan pepper sorbet, perfect for a summer dessert.

Picturesque British Escape: The Cotswolds

This week, we are sharing some of our favorite things to do and see in the Cotswolds, one of the most stunning regions in the UK.

The Cotswolds

The Cotswolds are a region located in south-west and south-central England. It’s a range of rolling hills that stretches across parts of Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, and other counties like Somerset, Wiltshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire. A large part of the Cotswolds has been designated as a National Landscape (formerly known as Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, or AONB); the area is known for its incredible landscape and architecture. It’s a must-visit destination for travelers interested in history, hikers who love scenic adventures, and those who simply want to slow down and soak in the charm of the English countryside.

The Cotswolds is about 1.5 hours by train from London, or a 2-hour drive. Depending on where you are traveling from, the Cotswolds is a lovely weekend getaway, but there is also enough to do and see to make this an interesting and varied 7+ day trip.

Stay

For a quintessential Cotswolds stay, we love, a beautifully restored, cottage-style property with lush gardens originally designed by the legendary English garden designer Rosemary Verey. The interiors are elegant yet relaxed, blending rustic charm with refined comfort. During your stay, enjoy seasonal,farm-to-table dining(with much of the produce grown on-site and the rest sourced within 25 miles), wander the expansive gardens, and unwind withbespoke spa treatmentstailored to your needs. While all the rooms here are special in their own right, our favorite isThe Secret Garden Suite; it’s romantic and cozy with a large soaking tub, a walled garden, and private entrance.

is another top choice. Set on a historic English country estate, the rooms are in restored 17th century cottages surrounded by a lush 150-acre estate. For the most charming stay, chooseOld Walls,a quirky and cozy 3-floor historic cottage. The cottage features exposed wood beams, awood-burning stove, and a private garden. For a luxurious stay, choose one of theDivineorExquisiteRooms – these still recall the same history but are restored and feature all the amenities you’d expect from a top-quality luxury hotel. These rooms may also be more suitable for older guests or those with mobility issues.

Eat and Drink

Soho House members will be delighted to discover, a charming branch of the members-only club set on a beautiful farm in the Cotswolds. There are, of course, excellent accommodations on site but our favorite part of the property is dining inside the huge restored barn. There you’ll enjoy a plant-forward menu (although not exclusively vegetarian – the menu features, such as ribeye, rotisserie chicken and more) highlighting seasonal produce. We particularly love the garden vegetable broth, the grilled artichokes, and the beetroots.

is another favorite. Stop first for a drink in the cozy pub then head to the stone-walled dining room, a restaurant awarded 3 AA Rosettes. Enjoy fresh produce, house-baked bread, Sunday roast, local artisanal cheeses, and more. For something more casual, head to, a historic pub with hillside views and a traditional British pub menu. On the other end of the fine dining spectrum, visitfor a Michelin-starred meal. Dating back to 1168, it is one of the oldest village pubs in the country. Enjoy top quality food in a warm and inviting atmosphere (complete with a livelybar, pool table, and darts!).

Explore

Plan to wander and get lost. This is a trip for leisurely discovering book stores, charming views, and quaint pubs. Don’t try to pack too much into one day. We suggest picking a few villages to visit and allowing ample time in each one.is perhaps the most scenic on the list; it was once described by William Morris as “the most beautiful village in England,” and that description absolutely still holds true.is another special area we’d highly recommend to travelers visiting the area for the first time; referred to as “Venice of the Cotswolds,” the area is known for its bridges and waterfront stone cottages. Here you’ll also findBirdland Park & Gardens, 9-acres of gardens with 130+ species of birds, including parrots, penguins, pelicans, flamingoes, and ostriches.Castle Combeis another charming choice, as isStow-on-the-Wold(particularly for antique lovers and those seeking a proper afternoon tea). Architecture lovers will enjoy the Gothic spires ofPainswick, while history buffs can spend an afternoon atSudeley Castleor nearbyBlenheim Palace, Winston Churchill’s birthplace.

is over 100 miles of walking trails through charming towns and countryside beginning inChipping Campden in the north and ending in Bath in the south. Choosing even just short stretches of the trail to explore will undoubtedly lead to some of the most stunning pastoral views in the world.

The Costwolds 2

What time of year is best to visit The Cotswolds?

Spring and summer are ideal for long countryside walks, with mild temperatures, blooming gardens, and lush green hills at their peak. Autumn brings a stunning display of red, orange, and gold leaves; fall is a great time to enjoy warmer days walking among the trees and colder evenings indoors sipping spiced cider. While winter may mean less time on the trails, it’s a magical time to explore the Cotswolds’ historic villages dusted with snow, warm up by the fire in a centuries-old pub, and enjoy the quieter, slower pace of the season.

In short, there’s no bad time to visit — it all depends on the kind of experience you’re after.

Open June 18 through August 6 this year, the Lavender Fields are 45-acres of absolutely gorgeous and fragrant lavender. Kid-friendly, dog-friendly, and very romantic, this is a lovely way to spend a summer afternoon.

For history and architecture lovers, as well as Harry Potter fans (the church appears as areas of Hogwarts in many of the films), this is a must-see in the Cotswolds. The Cathedral is open daily, entry is by donation, and all are welcome.

Visit Doha: A City of Art, Architecture & Gorgeous Sites

This is a wonderful time of year to visit Doha. The temperatures are moderate, hovering in the high 60s to 70s, and the days are beautiful. There is plenty to do for solo travelers and families alike.

Ramadan is celebrated from the end of February through the end of March; there are many incredible celebrations throughout the city during this time. April is another great month for special events, including the Qatar Grand Prix. From May on, the weather can be quite hot (with many days over 100°F/37°C) so may not be right for first-time visitors. We recommend visiting November through April. And, of course, a trip to Doha is a great time to experience the unbeatable luxury of Qatar Airways. Qatar Airways offers direct flights to Doha from many major cities, including New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, London, Paris, Dubai, and more.

Incredible Museums, Architecture & History

is on the top of our list for a visit to Doha. Designed by I. M. Pei, the stunning building is home to an incredible collection of Islamic art from around the world, including manuscripts, textiles, ceramics, calligraphy, and a huge array of artifacts. Furthermore, it is thethe first carbon-neutral certified museum in the Middle East. While there, dine atrenowned Chef Alain Ducasse’s first restaurant in the Middle East.,,and the(one of the world’s largest private museums) are each also exceptional and highly worth visiting while in town. The Qatar National Library is also currently hosting a special exhibition,, through April 26.

Grand Prix of Qatar & Other Events

Qatar is known for hosting incredible events and festivals. Thejust finished last week but is a wonderful annual event to keep in mind for future years. For those planning a visit this spring, you might consider getting tickets for the exhilaratingrunning April 11-13 this year. Fans who can’t make the race will enjoy a visit to, which hosts rotating exhibitions of sports artifacts and history; they will be hosting a Formula 1 exhibition entitled “” through April 1, but all their exhibitions are well-done and interesting.

Luxury Hotels

Some of the world’s most exquisite luxury hotels are in Doha.is a palatial waterfront oasis; every room, suite, and villa has a stunning view of the Arabian sea. The hotel boasts handmade carpets and antiques throughout and stunning architecture. Do note that the hotel and its restaurants are dry (no alcohol is served) but it is not far from local licensed bars and restaurants. If you prefer a hotel that serves alcohol onsite (there are a number that do – be sure to check ahead of time if this is important to you),is one of our favorites; similar to The Chedi, the architecture and views are standout here. Amenities include multiple pools, a kid’s club, spa, and a lovely afternoon tea. The hotel is also Green Key Certified, a certification for hotels that meet high environmental and sustainability standards.

Ramadan

This year, Ramadan runs from the evening of Friday, Feb 28 through Saturday, March 29. There are many special activities and celebrations throughout Qatar during this time. Theis a free (but ticketed – tickets available through) community event where people gatherto enjoy traditional music, spiritual reflection, and the pre-dawn meal. The Ritz Carlton’s Sharq Village Hotel is offering a special “” package this year, which includes a room with private balcony, as well as both Iftar and Suhoor for two in their gorgeous Ramadan Tent. There, you’ll dine under the stars with views of the Doha skyline.is another spectacular luxury setting to enjoy Iftar and Suhoor.e will also host several special cultural events, lectures, activities, and light shows during Ramadan; details should be released very soon.

Time on the Water

Doha might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of beachfront trips but whether you want to dine on the water, visit the beach, or enjoy a private boat trip, Doha is a remarkable choice. Many properties have gorgeous private beaches (including both our favoritesand) but if you’re seeking a public beach, you might try Katara Beach, which has lifeguards, beach chairs, clean changing rooms, and a children’s playground. Ask your hotel about booking a private cruise around the city; you can alsofor a two-hour evening cruise through the Arabian Gulf. Doha is also a hot-spot for yachts; bring your own (The Pearl-Qatar Marina would be our top choice to dock) or charter one from one of the many local companies. Again, your hotel will be able to assist with these arrangements.

Unique Day and Weekend Trips

From Doha, you can easily explore other areas, whether you’re looking for a safari, a beach getaway, or a visit to anarchaeological site, Qatar has something to offer. Al Khor Island (also known as “Purple Island”) is one of our favorites. Just one hour from Doha, you’ll find lush and unique foliage including a mangrove forest, as well as the only archaeological site in the country dated to the second millennium BC. It’s the perfect day trip for those interested in nature, ecology, and history. Another special experience is a desert safari; some includedune bashing, camel riding, and sand-boarding. Most luxury hotels can arrange this for you.

Tips for First Time Visitors

Research Ahead of Time & Be Respectful

We suggest reading about the history of the city, its important traditions and culture, and the rules of the specific locations you you plan to visit before leaving on your trip. For example, it’s considered respectful to avoid eating and drinking in public during daylight hours during Ramadan. When unsure, it is wise to ask local contacts or your hotel about best practices. As with any destination, it’s vital to be respectful of the area’s culture and history.

Dress Modestly.

It is considered respectful to dress modestly throughout Qatar. This typically means covering shoulders and knees. For beaches, check the rules of the specific one you intend to visit ahead of time; often western swimwear is fine in the water, but coverups should be worn when on land.

Learn the Rules about Alcohol

Consuming alcohol is only allowed in licensed hotels, bars, and clubs. Public intoxication is illegal.
