International Women’s Day 2026

In honor of听this weekend, we are pleased to celebrate our dedicated team of women. BAHS is a a proudly female owned and run company led by Anita Rogers. The team consists of 30+ womenworking across听6 time zones. Our talented team comes from a wide range of backgrounds – many members come from the hospitality industry or the household staffing world, including former nannies, governesses, and estate managers. BAHS prides itself on supporting women; the company offers several flexible working options to support women at every stage in life, especially during pregnancy and new parenthood.

The team includes听12 mothers听parenting听16 鈥淏AHS Kids鈥听ranging in age from 6-months to adult. A smiling (or crying!) little one is not an unusual sight on the team鈥檚 frequent staff meetings, held via video call. BAHS offers听health insurance听and听generous maternity leave听(the average time taken is 3-months) and every employee who has taken maternity leave has returned to their role, with two new mothers in the past year! The company offers flexible schedules to all employees so they can balance family, personal life, and work.

Thank you to our amazing BAHS team!

I support women and mothers in the workforce. We are all-female, led and run. Most of the team make as much or more than men make. I wanted this from the early days, as women are traditionally paid less than men, and once they are mothers, the regular work schedule doesn鈥檛 support spending quality time with your family. I give a free and flexible schedule so mothers can choose when to spend time with their families, they just have to have excellent output and be responsive, earn a certain amount (if they are in sales), and do a great job.

-Anita Rogers in an interview with听Authority Magazine

Prepare Your Home for the Holidays

As we enter the holiday season, many of us feel a mix of excitement and anxiety. As festive and wondrous as this time of year can be, it is often matched by long nights and jam-packed schedules. This week, we鈥檝e put together our favorite ways to prepare your home for the holiday season and to make guests feel welcome and cared for. We hope to alleviate some of the stress of last-minute guests and give you a little extra peace of mind. We recommend checking in with your housekeeper or property manager to make sure everything is prepped and ready before the busy season.

Refresh Guest Bedrooms and Common Areas

While it鈥檚 wise to do a deep clean of your entire home before the busy holiday season, we recommend paying extra attention to oft-overlooked guest bedrooms, as well as the kitchen and dining room, of course. Ask staff to be sure seasonal dishes and glassware are unpacked and organized and that silver is polished.

In the guest bedroom and bath, think about what special touches your guests might appreciate. For example, we suggest stocking a couple good-quality mini toiletries (we love both the听听and the听听travel sets), leaving filtered water on the bedside table, and having extra phone chargers on hand to loan to guests. Small touches like a sign with the WiFi information, and a couple cozy books on the bookshelf can go a long way towards making a guest鈥檚 stay more enjoyable.

We love finding a way to bring the holiday season and winter decor into the room; this might be through a seasonal potted plant, such as a poinsettia or mini evergreen, or with festive throw pillows and scented candles (don鈥檛 forget to leave a matchbook or handy!). If you鈥檒l be regularly hosting overnight guests this season, you might purchase additional throws for the guest bedrooms and to have on hand for cozy movie nights; for a luxe option, we love听听and for excellent quality at a lower price point, we love听. Make sure you have extra bath towels and bedsheets on hand if your home will be fuller than usual. We also love adding a听听and slippers to the guest bedroom, as well as a little self-care gift such as a face mask or body lotion. Amazon now sells simple听, which we think are a nice treat for guests.

Restock Entertaining Supplies

During this time of year, you鈥檙e likely to have unexpected visitors, last-minute drop-ins, and dinner guests that linger longer than expected. To be ready for whatever holiday entertaining throws your way, we suggest planning ahead and strategically stocking the various areas of your home with long-lasting items you can pull out at a moment鈥檚 notice. For the bar, we suggest having a few extra bottles of sparkling water on hand, as well as some wine and champagne, if you drink alcohol. In the pantry, we stock olives, crackers, herbed nuts, and dried specialty pastas. In the refrigerator, we try to always keep lemons, quality parmesan, a good soft cheese, and whatever fruit your household enjoys. Finally, we love keeping a few frozen appetizers on hand in the freezer, as well as a pint of good quality ice cream. Most gourmet markets offer a wide selection of frozen hors d鈥檕euvres to choose from; if you prefer you or your staff to make your own, these听听are simple and freeze well, as do many recipes using puff pastry. This way, you will be ready no matter what – you can easily put together a quick cocktail and light bite, fast dinner, or add a scoop of ice cream to your neighbor鈥檚 homemade pie.

Make Small Upgrades

If there are any small upgrades you鈥檝e been meaning to get around to in your home, we suggest handling before guests arrive this season. Upgrade the shower curtain in the bathroom. Add Kleenex dispensers to the bathrooms (we love these听). Swap out the wastepaper baskets in the bedrooms. Repaint the guest bathroom. These little changes will take one thing off your to do list and make your home feel fresher.

Confirm Gifting Plan

Before the season gets too busy, we suggest making a list of everyone you plan to give gifts, bonuses, and/or holiday cards to this year. Update your list as you purchase gifts and as they arrive and share with your spouse and/or personal assistant. Clear out a closet and make sure you have space to store gifts as you purchase them. Keep your wrapping paper and ribbons all in one place. If you鈥檒l be outsourcing wrapping to a staff member, mark on the list if the gift recipient should receive a particular style/color of wrapping and what date you need it completed by.

Review Staff & Family Schedules

Double check staff contracts and requested vacation dates before the busy season starts to be sure everyone is on the same page and coverage is handled. Review children鈥檚 schedules with nannies and caretakers and be sure all staff understand the requirements around holidays. Double check dates of theatre tickets and holiday parties and confirm with childcare ahead of time. What staff will work which holidays? Are the hours more or less? What is the agreed rate? If overnights are required, have logistics and pay been negotiated ahead of time?

Stay Safe

On top of all the fun preparations, don鈥檛 overlook the practical considerations of keeping your family and guests safe this season. Clean the rain gutters at the end of the autumn. Check fireplaces. Winterize the doors and windows. Make sure your alarm system works properly and all family members are in the habit of using it – even the best systems are useless if they aren鈥檛 working correctly when the worst happens.

Be sure to听check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors听– and be sure you have enough for your home. The general rule of thumb for smoke detectors is to have minimum one on each floor with one inside and outside each sleeping area; larger homes may need more.听听and听. 听听.

Set Aside Time for You

As the head of a household, it can be an overwhelming time of year as you try to manage family and social engagements, holiday preparations, fluctuating academic schedules, visiting guests, and more. Try to set aside some regular time for yourself – whether it鈥檚 your daily trip to the gym, a nightly hour to yourself, or an occasional spa day, don鈥檛 ignore your own needs. While the holiday season may seem overwhelming, the thing your family will remember most is the time spent together. Feel free to say no to big events and spend a cozy night in together instead.

Honoring Black History Month听

February is Black History Month. According to NPR, February was chosen primarily because the second week of the month coincides with the birthdays of both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. Lincoln was influential in the emancipation of slaves, and Douglass, a former slave, was a prominent leader in the abolitionist movement, which fought to end slavery.鈥 This year’s theme is “African Americans and the Arts” which highlights the contributions by African Americans to visual arts, music, cultural movements, and more. This week, we are sharing a few ways you can honor Black History Month, and hopefully discover new institutions, artists, and businesses that you can support year-round.

Educate Yourself and Your Family

If you aren’t already familiar, we would like to introduce you to the听. This is comprehensive online tool available to all in honor of Black History Month. The museum has assigned each week of the month a different arts-related theme (this week is visual arts) and shares exhibition highlights, articles, videos and more. Visit the museum’s main听听homepage for even more content. Of course, for those in the Washington DC area, we suggest a visit this month (and every month – they have wonderful rotating special exhibitions, as well as a variety of community events).

Join a Museum.

Joining a local museum is a great way to show your support for the community and expand your understanding of African听American听history. There are over 100 museums in the U.S. focusing on Black artists and history – there is likely one in your state.听听听is the听oldest independent African听American听museum.听听boasts a collection of over 9,000 works, as well as听artist residencies and听vibrant special exhibitions.听听is an interactive museum with听artifacts, videos, and oral histories that take visitors through pivotal moments in history.

Support Black Artists & Artisans.听

Take the opportunity this month to find a new favorite local or small black-owned business to support year-round. A few online black-owned businesses we love are听听(custom crayons!) owned by Tiffany Henry,听听founded by Lalese Stamps, and听, gorgeous handbags and clothing founded by听Cecile Essono.

Guidelines for Domestic Staff Bonuses

The entire BAHS team wishes you a warm and happy holiday season! This week, we are sharing some bonus guidelines for those of you seeking to treat your staff.

Should I give a bonus to my household staff?

Giving a bonus is common in the domestic staffing industry. This does not mean it is mandatory. We recommend offering a bonus to staff members that are performing well and who you intend to keep long-term. It’s lovely way to show your appreciation听and support during the holiday season. We recommend being consistent year-to-year in terms of giving a bonus to each employee; if for some reason you cannot match previous years, we suggest having a conversation with the employee. An employee will typically see the bonus as an indication of their performance; if you give a lesser bonus to a high-performing employee, they may see it as a signal that they aren’t doing well. If that’s not the case, communication is key.

However, if one of your team members isn’t working out, we suggest having a clear and honest conversation with them about the problems; giving a bonus to an employee you don’t intend to keep on the team sends the wrong message and provides a false sense of job security.

Of course, if you’ve included bonus information in your employee’s contract, be sure to honor those terms.

How much should I gift?

We recommend anywhere from 1-4 weeks’ pay, depending on the employee’s performance and how long they have been employed in your home.听2 weeks’ pay is the average bonus for a domestic staffing employee.

Should I give other gifts in addition or instead of a bonus?

Gifts in addition to a bonus can be a welcome gesture. Nannies will love a framed photograph of themselves with the children or handmade cards from the little ones. Extra paid days off around the holidays to celebrate with family or in the new year to recharge are also a lovely way to show your appreciation.

I’m unable to give a bonus this year. What should I do?

If you are unable to give a bonus – or match last year’s – due to financial reasons, it is important to let the employee know so they don’t assume it is related to their performance. As with most things, misunderstandings can be avoided with early and open communication.

What are the tax implications for providing a bonus?

Per GTM: a听holiday or annual review bonus is considered taxable income. As the employer is the provider, the bonus does not qualify as a gift in the eyes of the IRS.

As the nights get chillier and we spend more evenings at home with cocoa by the fire, we asked our BAHS team members to recommend their favorite books to curl up with on a snowy night.听Below we are sharing our winter reading list for the months ahead. We wish everyone a warm and cozy holiday season – with plenty of time for stories by the fire!

BAHS Winter Reading List听

A Hint (or More) of Magic and Fantasy听

UK Senior Placement Specialist Zoey Ingarfield’s top recommendation is the “absolutely beautiful” book,听听by Erin Morgenstern. The imaginative story follows the poignant relationship between two young dueling magicians. For those who love a touch of whimsy and magic, she also suggests听听by Helene Wecker,听by听Katherine Arden,听by Claire North,听听by听Robert Dinsdale, and听听by Eowyn Ivey. Senior Placement Specialist Elizabeth B. Myerson recommends听听by Emma Straub; the book is a coming-of-age classic meets time travel story. Not only is it an excellent read, it was written by a听Brooklyn mother who owns the bookstore,听听(in this newsletter, we’ve tried to link our book suggestions to this store whenever possible). Massachusetts-based Abby Schuster, a voracious reader and BAHS Senior Placement Specialist, suggests听听by Garth Nix this time of year. Abby shares “I鈥檓 not generally big into fantasy, but these books are the best. I鈥檝e read them all 5+ times and cry at the end every time. The atmosphere in the first one really lends itself to feeling cozy, and then the second two take you on a real adventure.” Another of Abby’s favorites is the enchanting听听by听TJ Klune.

Love, Tears, and Resilience听

Senior Placement Specialist Vanessa Vargas shares “anything by听Nicholas听Sparks is good…. but guaranteed to be a tear-jerker.” Her particular favorite is听, a hope-filled story of a single mother who finds a love letter in a bottle on the beach and sets out to find the writer.听Ellie Mohammadi loves听Donna Tartt’s gorgeous book,听听and听by听Holly L. L枚rincz and L. Maleki. Both Abby and Zoey recommend听听by听Shelby Van Pelt and听听by听Anthony Doerr, two very different but incredibly touching stories of perseverance, hope, and resilience.

Non-FictionBoth our COO Catherine Whyte and听Senior Placement Specialist Elizabeth B. Myerson highly recommend听听by听Eve Rodsky. Catherine also loves听, particularly听. Elizabeth recommends听Jia Tolentino’s听, which she describes as “a collection of extremely astute essays” – and it was named one of the top books of the year in 2019 by multiple publications, including听The New York Times Book Review,听Time,听Chicago Tribune,听The Washington Post,听The Paris Review, and听NPR.

Warm and FunnyTalent Acquisition Specialist Liz Hankins loves听听by Fredrik Backmann; Backmann’s books are as tender as they are humorous. This fall, Catherine Whyte saw David Sedaris reading from his 2022 book of essays听听and that is now next up on her nightstand!听The New York Times听described the book as “consistently funny” and “delightful.”

ThrillerFor those who aren’t afraid of crime and suspense, Liz Hankins is currently working on听, a book based on Ted Bundy’s crimes, by Jessica Knoll. Liz’s colleague in听Talent Acquisition Alanna Kaminski loves anything by听Freida McFadden, a successful thriller author听and听practicing听physician specializing in brain injury; Alanna divulged she has read ten of McFadden’s books in the past year! Another great page turner on Alanna’s list is听听by Sarah Penner. UK Senior Placement Specialist Martha Keith Burnett, who loves to get lost in books by the fire in chilly Edinburgh, recommends Ian McGuire’s听, which she describes as “dark, thrilling and cold,” as well as John Banville’s听, a Booker Price Finalist described as “a sinister, quirky and thrilling character study.”

What is most rewarding about being a nanny?听

I love being a nanny because my job doesn鈥檛 feel like work to me! My current position as a live-in nanny has allowed me to form such great relationships with my Nanny Family, who have been so welcoming and really made their home feel like my own. I wake up genuinely excited to spend the day with the coolest kid ever and love planning activities for us.

Nannying is so rewarding to me because I have the ability to make a positive, tangible difference for a family and because I have been able to experience so much love, growth, and form lifelong relationships. Childcare is my greatest passion and I am so grateful to British American House Staffing for helping me find a position that lets me live out my dream everyday in a life that I absolutely love.

What is a stereotype of Nannying you wish would be broken?听

I really wish the stigmatization of nannying not being viewed as a career could be dismissed! I don鈥檛 think people realize how important our jobs are and how much of an effect we are able to have on real people. Also, I studied hard in University to receive my degree in Child Developmental Psychology! I am proud to say that I am using my degree to help form the next generation. Little ones need so much love and attention during their development, and as the saying goes- it really does take a village. As a nanny, I put my heart and soul into what I do. My job definitely isn鈥檛 easy, but it is something I absolutely love!

Ayesha, New York, New York

What is听something you overcame as a nanny that could be encouraging to others?

The most important thing I overcame as a nanny is setting professional boundaries. Working in such an intimate environment often goes beyond what was agreed upon or even more than should be expected of you. It鈥檚 important to have the difficult conversions early, before accepting a position.

What does it mean to be a nanny in the part of the world and society that you live in?

Being a nanny has evolved since I started over twenty years ago. It鈥檚 now more often considered to be a career, as it should! As a career nanny I want my job to be respected and validated just as much as any other position in the workforce. There are many types of families in our world today and they all have various needs and moving parts. A nanny is an extension of that family; hired to facilitate a harmonious household among so many other things while fostering healthy and happy little ones!

Where is your happy place?

My happy place is to feel like a part of the family versus an employee.

What stereotypes of nannies do you wish were broken?听

There are so many stereotypes within the nanny industry. I am happy it started to come out of its shadows more recently. There are several stereotypes I wish would go away; it鈥檚 not a legitimate job, it鈥檚 a position only performed by workers that can鈥檛 do better or don鈥檛 have a choice, it鈥檚 a job for the uneducated or illegal residents鈥mong so many more.

What is most rewarding about being a nanny?

The most rewarding thing about being a nanny is that parents put 100% trust in you to help raise their children. Whether they have one or five, they are the most important part of their lives. It鈥檚 a pleasure to watch all the growth, milestones and the funny moments/ things they say..some of it just pure honesty!

Was there a specific moment that led to your decision to become a nanny?

A family I worked for while attending college reached out to me for temporary help. While I was with them I realized how much I enjoyed it. I actually missed them and the work I was doing. Within two years I went back full-time.

Share your funniest moment as a nanny.听

I have had so many funny moments over the past two decades. But the funniest that I remember to this day is probably inappropriate for print. But 3-4 year olds are hilarious!

What is most rewarding about being a nanny?听听

Diana

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a Nanny is being able to make deeply impactful relationships with kids and their families, and ultimately becoming part of the family. It takes a lot of trust to allow someone into your home, and it鈥檚 not something I take lightly! I am incredibly humbled and grateful for the opportunities I have had.

听Was there a specific moment that led to your decision to become a nanny?

听What started as a babysitting gig during the COVID-19 pandemic turned into a remarkable and rewarding full-time career as a Nanny. Working with diverse and intricate families during such a sensitive time allowed me to learn the art of identifying family pain points, which in turn allowed me to leverage both my knowledge and skills to help families reach their ideal comfort levels. Since then, I have found my passion and my place, and I am not looking back!

What was something you overcame as a nanny that could be encouraging to others?

Toddlers’ tantrums and meltdowns in public are those that I overcome as a Nanny which when addressed properly may help other Nannies with this experience. It used to be so embarrassing when people stare at me but through time and practice I am able to navigate well how to calm their feelings and their bodies. First we don’t panic when people look at us even if their look is kind of demeaning but be calm and go to the child’s level and acknowledge their frustration over something he/she can not have.听 Then distract her/him by providing an alternative. We never reprimand them in public and instead hug them and verbalize positive feelings. This really works but we need to practice and be patient and persevering — with a smile!

What stereotypes of nannies do you wish were broken?听

The stereotypes of being a Nanny that I wish to be broken is for people who think Nannies are just baby sitters as if we just watch passively how the babies grow up. Nannies should be known as a profession with dedicated men and women who are highly educated, multi skilled and talented with high emotional quotient.

Was there a specific moment that led to your decision to become a nanny?

The specific moment that led to my decision to become a Nanny was when I听got my green card I decided that being a Nanny will be my chosen career. Instead of coming back to the corporate world.. I think of myself as a PA/EA of a child. I was a PA/EA/Secretary for CEOs before now I am a PA for the COO (child of owner) and personally assisting a future CEO. My job entails heavy communication, speaking on their behalf when they are unable yet to speak. My social work profession also helped in respecting and understanding children’s psychology and conveying non verbal communication.

Who inspires you in the nanny community?

The who is a company. It is听百花视频. This company inspires me… it is represented by their staff who are the epitome of the best headhunters who walk their talk. What the website says is truly what it is. You are the best.

That is why even if I have work I keep reading BAHS…

What was something you overcame as a nanny that could be encouraging to others?

Something I have overcome as a nanny is learning how to advocate for myself. In this industry, there鈥檚 no HR. I鈥檝e learned how to be my own HR, and advocate for myself and the things I believe in, while helping other nannies do the same!

Was there a specific moment that led to your decision to become a nanny?

I used to work in the education field, but over time I started realizing that I really had a passion for the one on one connection and the closer bonds I can make with those connections.

What is most rewarding about being a nanny?

One of the hardest things of being a nanny, will always be leaving the children you have cared for, protected and loved for part of your life. My heart always breaks a little when it鈥檚 time to move on, because they are听simply old enough, mature enough, to be on their own. But at the same time, it鈥檚 one of the most rewarding moments, knowing you were there for them, watched them grow, guided them when they needed you, comforted them when things were hard to understand, helped them with their homework and cheered for them at听their games. Knowing you came, did the job, and that a new family is waiting to start the circle all over again. When you stay at a job for as long as I have, they become family, and become part of your life even after the job is done, and that鈥檚 something truly special.

Involving Children in Rosh Hashanah

Explain.听

Take the time to explain the significance of the holidays to children. Depending on your child’s age and interest, you might approach this conversation differently. We love the idea of sharing a bit of history on the holiday and then connecting that history with the things we do today to honor that. You might take a moment to share some special memories from your childhood then ask if you child has any ideas to add to this year’s celebration. Children will always be move involved and cooperative if they understand what is happening and are given some agency over the events.

Invite.

Invite children to participate in the preparations and festivities. Involve them in making challah, picking seeds from pomegranates, or simple chopping. You might set the table together or hang decorations. During Rosh Hashanah, ask children what they’d like to improve in the next year and share your own resolutions. We love the idea of making a resolution as a family – it could be something as simple as eating breakfast all together three mornings a week or going on one educational family outing a month.

Play.

Make new memories together! Books, songs, games, and crafts are all great ways to learn about the holidays and spend time together. Decorate the house with apples or pomegranates – you can use fresh fruit, cut simple shapes from paper, or make听听with little ones. Children can also make honey pots using at-home clay or decorate mason jars for the holiday and fill with honey afterwards – don’t forget to pick up apples for dipping! Young children might enjoy the fun and easy to learn song听.

“On the first night of Rosh Hashanah, it鈥檚 custom to say prayers over wine, honey- or raisin-sweetened challah, and apples. On the second night, pomegranates are often eaten instead of apples. As Marks writes: 鈥淭he Rosh Hashanah simile is,听鈥榤ay we be full of merits like the pomegranate [is full of seeds.]鈥欌 Sephardic Jewish households frequently incorporate pomegranates on the Rosh Hashanah seder plate (along with items like leeks, pumpkin, apples, and walnut-stuffed dates), signifying a wish for blessings in the coming year.”听–听by Rebecca Firkser

End of Summer Essentials

As we approach mid-August, many of us are clinging to the last weeks of summer while others are busy looking forward to sweaters and the crisp autumn air. Whichever side you fall on, there are a few weeks left to enjoy summer and we suggest making the most of them before the weather changes. This week, we’ve gathered our favorite ways to spend a leisurely summer afternoon, with plenty of tips and ideas to enjoy simple summer activities with your loved ones.

It’s Not Summer Until…

You’ve enjoyed an ice cream cone.

A cold ice cream cone dripping down your hand on a warm day is a quintessential summer moment. If you鈥檙e looking for something new to try, it鈥檚 not too late to order听听homemade ice cream by the pint. We love the summer听, including Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread and Pickled Cucumber Sorbet, as well as the classic Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Arbequina Olive Oil. The shop also offers dairy-free and vegan flavors – try the Peach Jam Miso Blondies.

Kid Eating An Ice Cream

You’ve bitten into freshly picked tomatoes and other summer produce.

Tomatoes, watermelon, strawberries, corn on the cob – summer is our favorite season for fresh fruits and vegetables. Many farms are still offering pick-your-own-berries, snap peas, and other summer produce. Those in NYC might consider a drive out to in upstate NY to enjoy pick-your-own raspberries, blackberries, flowers and vegetables – as well as family friendly activities, including a farmer’s market, kid’s jump pad, fishing pond, playground, corn hole, mini golf, and more. And don’t miss the opportunity to take a photo with the wold’s largest garden gnome on your way out! West Coast families might consider a ride to to pick strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and summer squash. They also have a petting zoom and farmer’s market on site.

If you happen to have a Farmer鈥檚 Market in your city, now is the time to visit! New York City鈥檚 Union Square Farmer鈥檚 Market is at it鈥檚 peak right now with an abundance of radishes, lettuce, tomatoes, berries, zucchini blossoms, and even fresh flowers, like dahlias. There are also a number of vendors selling cold medicinal teas, including those with ginger, lemon, and ashwagandha.

Once stocked up on fresh flowers and produce, we love hosting a simple summer dinner party that highlights the flavors and requires very little effort. For brunch, you might consider a听听or听, with a big side salad. For dinner, we suggest a grilled steak or salmon (or big head of marinated cauliflower!), with tons of roasted vegetables, and maybe a simple but slightly unexpected salad to start – we love cantaloupe with basil and prosciutto or cucumbers with mint and red onion.

You’ve attended a picnic.

For us, summer isn鈥檛 summer without a traditional picnic. Whether you head to a local park or enjoy one in your own backyard, pick a sunny afternoon, grab a blanket (find听听鈥 but a couple听听work just as well!) and enjoy the day with family and friends. At this point in the summer, we look for delicious fresh food that doesn鈥檛 require too much time in the kitchen or at the oven. We love packing up a few simple snacks that can all work together to form a meal: a container of fresh fruit and herbs (try strawberries and mint or watermelon and basil), a couple crusty baguettes or pita bread, hummus (store-bought or this听), chopped carrots and other crudit茅s, a small selection of cheese and charcuterie, and perhaps something sweet like a听. If you鈥檙e feeling a little more ambitious, we might add on听听and this fresh听.

You’ve spent a few hours reading outdoors.

One of our favorite simple pleasures of summer is taking an afternoon to ourselves to linger over a good book in the outdoors. Pack your favorite ice-cold beverage (try this听) and head out to find a shady spot. This summer, we are enjoying a mix of old favorites, such as听,听听and听, and contemporary reads, such as听and听.

You’ve hosted a summer movie night.

Some summer nights are just perfect for cold drinks, popcorn, and post-film s鈥檓ores. Whether you decide to听听or enjoy the air conditioner inside, we suggest you plan ahead to turn a regular Friday night into one your whole family will remember for years. We love starting with a fun summer dinner, like a听听and听听鈥 if you鈥檙e short on time, purchase a high quality thin-crust frozen pizza (we love听听and听), and top with a couple fresh vegetables. Now that we鈥檝e had our vegetables, make sure to prepare some buttered popcorn and pick up your family鈥檚 favorite candies. To cut down on some of the processed sugar, we opt for batching up a light refreshing drink, like this听听instead of traditional movie sodas; serve in a big cup with lots of ice and听听to make it fun for children 鈥 and adults can always spike with a little vodka or gin. We love the idea of adding an intermission to the film – and asking little ones to do a brief live performance, such as a song or dance routine.
